An Evening in High Park with Sandi & Bernard (+Gabby!)

Dogs! All the dogs! All the time! Please!

When we first met with Sandi & Bernard they already knew that they wanted to take their engagement photos at their local park- Downsview Park- but when we were discussing this it was winter, cold, and there was snow on the ground so after everything was said and done that day we said "we’ll check in with you in the spring/summer so we can set this up!” and that was that. S&B had their wedding planned for spring 2021 and unlike most people who had to move their wedding from 2020 to 2021, they actually had to move their wedding because their venue closed down due to COVID!! When we spotted the news floating over Instagram we immediately messaged Sandi who thankfully said that she already knew. As upset as they were (and us too, we were really looking forward to being at The Estate of Sunnybrook!) they fortunately were able to book another venue for another date next year. In celebration of their engagement though, and wanting to do something nice during this crazy time, we decided to push through with their engagement photos! They were still set on going to Downsview but a couple of weeks before we were scheduled to shoot Sandi had said they stopped by one evening and as much as they love their evening walks there with their dog Gabby, they wanted more variety to their photos than just the park, they wanted to go somewhere we can get a bit of both worlds- a park and a different backdrop.

After some thinking we decided on High Park (which is one of our fave spots in the city tbh); it’s so big that it’s easy to be away from other people, there’s a ton of variety from an open green lawn, being in the trees for more of a ‘forresty’ vibe, walking by the pond, and even the small nook Ethan found that looked like they were in a botanical garden or even somewhere tropical! The park, as always, was magical and we were even more excited that they brought their fave girl along for the ride ;). After a few photos at the park we made our way down to the lake and walked around the Humber Bay Park. The weather shifted and it became hazy out, which we later realized was because of the forest fires happening on the west coast (crazy!) so unfortunately we didn’t get the magical sunset lake photos that we wanted, but we all still enjoyed ourselves!
