Emma & David's Backyard Elopement in Hamilton

Emma & David are among so many people whose wedding was moved from 2020 to 2021…

When they decided to move their wedding they were a-ok with it; this is life right now, it’s the right and safe thing to do, and ultimately they want to have their wedding their way so waiting a little bit for that to happen is worth it. Slowly the world started to open up again and they suddenly decided to take advantage of the moment; they went to city hall, got their marriage license, organized a backyard dinner, and said “we’re doing it!”

As sad as it is to downscale your wedding, and as much as we miss the dancefloor (lol), I think the lovely part of this new trend of elopements and microweddings is that it puts more emphasis on your ceremony. There’s more focus on you, getting married, being together, being present in the moment and that’s exactly what Emma & David’s 7 person backyard wedding was. On a Friday evening, we were all late (what can I say- Friday traffic was suddenly a thing again), it was beautiful out, and there was a ping of excitement in the air! They FaceTimed in Emma’s brother in the States, and then they did it, they said I do. Right then and there, in the quiet of David’s mom’s backyard, with the neighbours watching from their windows, and with some champagne (of course). The house backs off onto a beautiful trail in Hamilton so we took some time after the ceremony to go for a stroll on one of their favourite running trails (they met through a running group!). After a few quick family photos (I mean, it was just 7ppl) and cutting the cake their friend made, they sat down to eat and drink the night away in celebration of their new union!
