An Extended Family Session at the Haliburton Post House

having a family get together is a great excuse to also schedule a photo session

In this case this family was gathering to have an Ontario celebration with two lovebirds after recently eloping in the UK. They rented the Haliburton Post House on Lake Kash (the same lake as this cottage wedding!) for the day and planned a lovely sit down dinner to celebrate, gather, and enjoy the last bits of summer.

The most difficult part of family photos, especially with a larger / adult family, is coordinating everyone’s different schedules, the kids different naps times, travel and accommodations for farther locations (this family’s matriarch is local to the Haliburton area but now that the kids are grown up they’ve all flown the coop and are living elsewhere now so it was a nice homecoming for them all), etc. Since they had this formal dinner in the works where they were all going to be together and going to look extra fabulous, this was the perfect opportunity to set up this shoot!

For extended family sessions we like to capture the family as a whole, but also break everyone off into their own individual units and take photos of them separately. BTW something like this could also make this session more budget-friendly among a big group ;)
