Allie & Stefan's Cottage Engagement on Papineau Lake

this session was a combination of all of the things we love: cottage country & photographing people in love

Having just come off of a full wedding the day before we didn’t necessarily think it was going to be emotionally, mentally, physically possible for us to finish a wedding late the night before, get up early to pack our things, hop into the car, drive 4hrs north, and shoot this session with Allie & Stefan with the same gusto had we had a clear weekend, but it was the last opportunity to shoot at their cottage before they closed for the season so we said, nope we’re going to make it happen no matter what! We’re so grateful for couples who match our vibe because even when we’re exhausted (there’s a term in the industry called a “wedding hangover”, no alcohol required) their passion, love, and lightheartedness really fuelled our fire and got us going again!

Maybe a daring comment here but there weren’t a lot of exceptionally spectacular specifics about this session; it ended up being kind of a drab, kind of rainy day, we stayed basically around one area of the property the whole time, and they didn’t do an outfit change. And honestly, that’s exactly what made it so incredibly beautiful! When choosing an engagement session location the first thing we suggest is choosing somewhere meaningful to you whether it’s your proposal spot, or the park you walked around after your first date, even your current home together. And that’s what this session was for Allie & Stefan; this cottage holds so much meaning to them that it doesn’t matter if it was an overcast day or that they were wearing the same outfit the whole time. Their love for each other and for this important location is what makes this session so wonderful and gives their photos much more sentimentality to them. Sometimes it’s not about having the perfect location with the perfect sunset on the water, sometimes imperfection is what makes something so perfect to you.

Also… we are now going to strongly encourage everyone to bring a bottle of champagne to every shoot, it was so much fun getting the last few spraying photos ;)
