A Romantic BC Engagement Session with Pam & Kyounggu at Porteau Cove
We knew shooting in BC was going to be beautiful, but we truly did not expect it to be this incredible
The criteria we gave to a local friend when looking for possible locations to shoot at was: beach, water, mountains, beautiful; to which they responded “that’s everywhere”. Now having been there (Stef, for the first time) we can confirm that yes, it really is everywhere! We connected with Pam & Kyounggu over Instagram and while they weren’t officially engaged (YET!) they were still up for photos at Porteau Cove with us.
Pam mentioned that in traditional Korean culture you wedding plan first and later get engaged. When we met up on our shoot day and were chatting about their wedding plans they said they were 80% finished their wedding planning and all that was missing was getting engaged. Little did we know until they were about to do an outfit change, Kyounggu discreetly told Ethan he was going to propose! *Cue instant tears from Stef* When we got into our second spot around the park to shoot we positioned them, gave Kyounggu a thumbs up, and so let it be said and let it be done, he popped the question then and there! To say Pam was surprised was an understatement, it was an exciting and emotional moment for them and we were SO honoured to have captured it!
We learned a couple of interesting things shooting here that are not things we ever have to think about when shooting in Ontario: When planning to shoot at sunset, take into the account that the sun sets even faster behind the mountains! We had spent a chunk of time in our first spot at the park and it felt like the sun was still so high up that we were moving at a leisurely pace. Suddenly the sun was close to the mountaintops and the light was quickly dwindling and we had to hustle. Another thing was taking in consideration is that the tide changes (see the BTS photos below)! When we landed in Vancouver we immediately made our way up to Squamish to see / stay with friends, and stopped in at Porteau Cove for a quick location scout. The tide was low and we were able to walk quite far out and had made mental notes of where along the shoreline we would go. A week later when we returned to shoot there was no shoreline at all! The water came all the way up to the driftwood at the perimeter of the park, we were absolutely blown away! Fortunately Pam & Kyounggu were up for a little adventure and climbing over the trees to get to the little open area of land we have available to us.
All in all this was such an incredible experience and we are so thankful to have connected with Pam & Kyounggu for this beautiful, romantic, mountainous, sunset shoot— it was truly everything we hoped it would be, and more!
With all of this said, we are so excited to share that we are officially taking bookings in BC for July 10-August 6, 2024. We would love to shoot your wedding / elopement, engagement, or family session with you! Get in touch for more information!
