Nicole & Jack's Fall Sunset Engagement Session in Whitby
We’re not sure how to intro this so we’ll just say: sunset engagement sessions are our favvvooouuurriiite
The last (and first) time we saw Nicole & Jack was at the beginning of the new year (2019) and after a string of emails throughout the year we finally reconnected in the fall to shoot their engagement photos a few months before their Valentine’s Day wedding. I think we’ve become kind of preachy about this over the years but we still stand by the fact that: 1. engagement sessions are such a great excuse for us to practice shooting together and 2. a general nice time to catch up together after initially meeting and before your big day! We want to know more about you, more about your love story, your history together, the shows and movies you’re watching (in this case it was El Camino which I may or may not have spoiled for Jack- sorry!!!)
The no pressure environment of an engagement session, I think, is what makes everyone thrive! Of course you want to look good and feel even better about your photos but at the end of the day we like to think about it as us just hanging out together while also taking photos so we put a lot of emphasis on getting to know you, on talking more so you don’t think about the camera and can loosen up, and we’re up front in saying ‘the first couple of sets up are going to be weird but every time we stop to shoot it’s going to feel easier and easier and by the end of it you’ll be in a good groove’ and that’s exactly what happened here!
The last set of photos are by far our favourite with the tall overgrown grass + Nicole & Jack’s formal outfit change + the warm setting sun! Which are your favourites?
