Jasmine & Jordan's Private Elopement at Preto Loft

“Elopement” is a word that has been thrown around a lot throughout covid

And in general, an elopement has been a smaller, downsized, intimate wedding. For those who want the same type of smaller wedding but without carrying the weight of the word, “micro-wedding” has been a new word used a lot too. But of all of these weddings not a lot of people have truly eloped— you know like Vegas style; just you two, your way with no fluff, and sometimes in secret.

Enter: Jasmine and Jordan. We actually had to restrain ourselves from responding to their inquiry within 0.001 seconds (like legit had to say out loud “would it be creepy or desperate to respond too quickly?”) but how could we not be excited for a true elopement?! Our elopement photo packages only come with 1 photographer but we couldn’t decide who would shoot so we offered to have both Stef & Hannah there which ended up working out perfectly because there weren’t any guests at all, so we would be both their photographers and their witnesses!

J&J were hoping to do the deed at somewhere like The Drake (similar to Max & Frederick’s micro-wedding) but were apprehensive that they’d be able to take over a space for just an hour or two and, not being from Ontario they weren’t familiar with what their alternate options were, so we suggested they check out some of our local studios where you can do exactly that: book an indoor space for a couple of hours, get hitched, and take some portraits no matter the weather outside!

I think we say this every year about our last wedding but this was no different: what a way to end our season! This little wedding was so perfect and was really truly about them; Jasmine and Jordan got ready together in the morning, took things slow, took the same Uber from their Airbnb together, and when they said their vows we all took a little step back so it was like they were talking amongst themselves. We were surprised to see that Preto already had their holiday set up in the studio space but they loved it and it put their photos into context— despite having an abnormally warm and sunny week, it was still was November with the holidays looming around the corner. After their quickie ceremony we took a few photos around the studio but cut our time short to hang out outside for a little bit before losing the sunlight. We went to Ethica Coffee Roaster (the resident coffee shop of Sterling Rd.) for a latte (for Jasmine) and a beer (for Jordan), where we definitely talked more than we shot. Before parting ways we took a quick stroll outside, shooting around the exterior of the industrial building, and then said some quick goodbyes (because their Uber was less than 1 minute away lol) so they could go off to their celebratory solo city dinner. Before Hannah and I left too we had to take a few moments to ourselves to bask in how lovely that whole experience was. Elopements aren’t for everyone, that’s for sure, but everything about this was was perfect.
