Gabrielle & Kyle's Editorial Inspired City Elopement

for us “editorial" wedding photography isn’t a big production, with a huge team, and hours dedicated to taking portraits

It’s actually being more intentional with photos, taking a moment to thoughtfully compose a shot, and to make you feel glamorous and chic whether smiling and laughing, or staring off into the distance with a relaxed model face. Whereas documentary photography is all about being candid and capturing organic moments, ‘editorial’ photography to us is more of a collaborative experience where we give you more specific guidance on what to do, where to look, drop your shoulder a little and turn more this way kind of thing while still letting you do your own thing so you can feel comfortable and confident.

Shooting in an editorial style isn’t for everyone, and though it was unplanned, we got into it with Gabrielle & Kyle and it is always such a treat to play with the more creative side of our brains while shooting. Some people prefer for us to be more of a fly on the wall while shooting (this wedding specifically asked for no direction, no posing, full documentary style), other folks feel like they want a lot or a little guidance for photos, but more often than not the sweet spot (IMHO) is in between the two— mostly documentary with a splash of editorial. And I think G&K’s days are the perfect example of this!

The had two parts (days) to their wedding; 1 afternoon at City Hall with their immediate families where they had a quick ceremony in chambers and then we spent some time on the terrace and Osgoode Hall shooting portraits and group photos, and then the next day at Cluny Bistro with their friends where we spent the evening shooting around the Distillery before hanging out with guests before dinner started. Both were beautiful days, emotionally and weather wise, but truly my favourite part was Gabrielle’s A La Robe from Loversland! For their civil ceremony she wore it with a sheer top and bun, and for their reception she wore it as is (like a slip dress) with her hair down. Is having 2 wedding days the key to making the most of your wedding dress lol? Nonetheless both her and Kyle, their families, and their friends, were such a joy to photograph and spend the days with.
