An Emotional Sunrise Engagement at the Bluffs with Dom & Jasmine

it is truly the highest honour to be invited to document such a milestone in someone’s life

Especially when it comes to being involved with a community that we do not share a direct link to. To be blunt we are a team of cis, white (except Ethan, who is part Native), straight, folks. It takes a lot of trust to be invited in, in this capacity, so we are forever grateful to earn that with our couples.

Domminque & Jasmine originally had one plan for their wedding that ended up falling through and to say that we were bummed was an understatement (but also still happy because their new plans are arguably much much better— hint: it involves a mountaintop in BC) . But when they expressed their interest in shooting engagement photos with us we were thrilled at the opportunity to still be able to work with them! These two were so giddy, open, and so clearly excited when we first talked I just knew that we were going to have a blast shooting together.

It took some time after our first meeting but we eventually pencilled in our sunrise session at the Bluffs for a brisk summer morning. When we plan engagement sessions we like to ask for a few tentative shoot dates to hold in case we need to reschedule because of inclement weather. We had a little back and forth with our second jobs (being meteorologists LOL) but when we showed up to shoot and got a stunning sunrise we knew that it was all worth it! We like to say: on your wedding you’re never going to be like ‘it’s kind of cloudy out, or it’s raining, I think we should reschedule our photos’, of course we’ll shoot no matter the weather. For your engagement photos though you have the flexibility to wait for the perfect day, so we really like to take advantage to make sure you are getting the most beautiful experience possible.

When we got to the Bluffs we headed straight for the west side, the small, usually private little beach facing a smaller part of the rock face. We got there and, surprisingly but kind of unsurprisingly it was closed off (it frequently happens). So instead we started on the beach, which was definitely a better place to be while the sun was rising, and worked our way around the park. I personally have never been to east side of the bluffs, where the public beach is, so we made our way over there to actually shoot against you know, the bluffs.
